“Occupational therapy is the only profession that helps people across the lifespan to do the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of daily activities (occupations). Occupational therapy practitioners enable people of all ages to live life to its fullest by helping them promote health, and prevent—or live better with—injury, illness, or disability.” AOTA.org
Sunrise Therapy Solutions will complete a home assessment and physical assessment to determine appropriate modifications. After all information is gathered, you will be provided with a detailed report that includes recommendations, with design plans, and photographs. We will help you find a skilled contractor to complete the modifications, if needed, and work closely with you throughout the process.
When determining the modifications necessary to meet your specific need, it is vitally important to utilize the knowledge of an occupational therapist in order to ensure the modifications will work for you. Occupational therapists provide physical assessments in order to determine individual specifications. For example, someone with a shoulder injury or arthritis may not be able to reach a grab bar that is set at ADA (American Disability Act) recommendations. An individual who has had a stroke that limits movement on one side needs to be able to transfer in a specific way. Utilizing an occupational therapist is the only way to ensure that the time and money invested into home modifications will meet your specific needs. Standard ADA regulations, used by general contractors, are meant to cover a large range of needs rather than individual needs.
Recommendations may include grab bars, ramps, stair lifts, widening of doors, threshold removal, flooring, lighting, remodeling of kitchen and bathrooms.
